Station 14
The Fourteenth Station: (Jesus is laid in the tomb), white marble and sterling silver, 25 x 10 x 8 cm. Photograph by Anna Pogossova.
Matthew 27:59-61: Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock.
My art practice explores the thematic areas of transience and transformation, often reflecting upon the life cycle of insects –particularly butterflies, so I found myself drawn to the correlation of the tomb and the chrysalis.
For this work I focused on four elements – the enveloping shroud, the material use of stone, the sealed containment and the seemingly impossible act of resurrection.
The beauty of transformation through deconstruction.
Meditation
The door is shut now,
and the world sighs and waits.
and we wait in night’s darkness,
longing for the morning,
longing for the light.
